2010

• Dennis Ohman, Professor & Chair, was elected the 2009-10 President of the Association for Medical School Microbiology & Immunology Chairs (AMSMIC). He is the organizer of the 2010 American Microbiology & Immunology Chairs’ meeting held in Cancun, Mexico.

2009

• Kimberley Jefferson, Assistant Professor, hosted the Virginia Branch American Society of Microbiology Meeting, held in Richmond, November 13-14, 2009.

• David Straus, Associate Professor, received the Departmental Excellence in Teaching Award at the School of Medicine Annual Awards Ceremony, Sept. 23, 2009.

• John Tew, Professor, received a "Best Teacher" Award at the School of Medicine Annual Awards Ceremony, Sept. 23, 2009 for his role in the Medical Immunology Course.

• Johanna Morales, Ph.D. student in the Manjili Laboratory, won the 2009 Mary P. Coleman Award for distinguished student leadership and graduate performance.
